MONIMAIL: From the town of the same name in the parish of Monimail in Fife. Henry de Monimel del counte de Fyfe rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 204). A royal pardon was granted to John Monymelle alias Manymelle, 1407 (Bain, IV, 734), and Sir Alexander Monimeil was vicar of Premetht (Premnay), 1483 (REA., I, p. 316). Sir Alexander Monymele, "chapellane cessionare and assignay 01 exectutouris of vmquhile Schyr George 'jidenone" in 1494 (ADC., p. 36), is probably Sir Alexander Monemeill, parson of Forbes in 1506 (CRA., p. 434). The obit 01 Alexander Monymell, rector of Forbes, is recorded c. 1550 (REA., II, p. 223). If the same person as the preceding he evidently died at a great age.
