This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. 'the son of Maurice,' from nick. More, and diminutive Morin; compare Colin, Robin. The name is a common one (always without prefix) in the Hundred Rolls, and the origin need not be doubted. There was evidently a nick. Mor or More, and the usual dims. Morin, Morcock, and Morkin were formed from it; v. Moorcock. The 'g' in Moring is excrescent, as in Jennings.

Morin means 'red'. After the conquest of the Americas and the incorporation of Native tribes, especially in the south, where the climate was much hotter than the north. Morins were considered reddish-brown people.
This also was used for the Latin in Europe especially in the south by the Mediterranean sea cultures who had a slight skin brown color; while the northern Germanic in Europe was much lighter in skin color with a pinkish tone.
