This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. 'the son of Maurice,' from nick. More, and diminutive Morin; compare Colin, Robin. The name is a common one (always without prefix) in the Hundred Rolls, and the origin need not be doubted. There was evidently a nick. Mor or More, and the usual dims. Morin, Morcock, and Morkin were formed from it; v. Moorcock. The 'g' in Moring is excrescent, as in Jennings.
