MORPAT: Probably from Morpeth (c. 1210 Morpat') in Northumberland. Walter Murpac (perhaps miswritten or misread for Murpat) witnessed a charter of the church of Mernes to the church of St, James of Passelet by Peter de Polloc, c. 1177-99 (RMP., p. 98 Euphan Morpat appears in Biggar in 1643 (Lanark CR.).
