Tut., 874), and Joneta Murchland and Agneta Murchland were retoured heirs of John Murchland in Caven Milne, their grandfather, in lands in the parish of Kilwinning, 1671 (Retours, Ayr, 574).

Joannes Murthlane in Cavenmylne is in record, 1662 (Inquis. Tut., 874), and Joneta Murchland and Agneta Murchland were retoured heirs of John Murchland in Caven Milne, their grandfather, in lands in the parish of Kilwinning, 1671 (Retours, Ayr, 574). Archibald Murchland and Johne Murchland in Cutswray, 1666 (Corsehill, p. 69), Robert Murchland, surveyor in Irvine, 1689 (RPC., 3. ser. XIV, p. 445), and Archibald Murchland in Little Corshill, 1704 (Corsehill, p. 202). Charles Morthland was first professor of Semitic languages in Glasgow University (1709). Agnes Murkland in Sanquhar, 1798 (Dumfries). The name Martland, recorded in Girvan, 1734, is probably another spelling. Murchlun 1686, Murchlane 1678.
