Adam de Modervale of the county of Lanark rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 212). Valter de Modirwall was clerk of the diocese of Glasgow and notary public in 1415 (Lennox, II, p. 61), Aristotle Moderwell witnessed an instrument of sasine in 1540 (Lamont, p. 50), and Alester Modrell was burgess of Renfrew in 1596 (Protocols, X).
