Though this is a rare name it has many spelling variants such as Mulshinoge, Multinock, Mulchinock, Mullshenogue and Mulshenagh; it is Ó Maoilsionóg in Irish and belongs almost exclusively to Counties Kerry and Cork. I have not found it in medieval records but it occurs in the 1659-60“census” in Mallow Town and in 1714 Father Thomas Mulshinoge, “a very old man then”, was parish priest of Kinsale; elsewhere in the two counties mentioned men of the name were recorded as landholders.

Though this is a rare name it has many spelling variants such as Mulshinoge, Multinock, Mulchinock, Mullshenogue and Mulshenagh; it is Ó Maoilsionóg in Irish and belongs almost exclusively to Counties Kerry and Cork. I have not found it in medieval records but it occurs in the 1659-60“census” in Mallow Town and in 1714 Father Thomas Mulshinoge, “a very old man then”, was parish priest of Kinsale; elsewhere in the two counties mentioned men of the name were recorded as landholders. William Pembroke Mulchinock (1820-1864) the Young Ireland poet and author of the “Rose of Tralee”, was himself a Tralee man. King's Kerry gives biographical details of several Mulchinocks in that county, the earliest being born about 1750. Little known arms are recorded for Mulchinoch in Genealogical Office MS.
