Robert I gave Fergus de Monda Willa half of the lands of Stranrever in the sheriffdom of Wigtoun (RMS., I, App II, 610). Master Simon of Mundeville or Simon Mundevill (without 'of') had safe conducts into England in 1407-8 (Bain, IV, 728,761). Henry Mundwell was burgess of Wigtown, 1498, John Mundville was notary there in 1610, Robert Mundell was tenant in the barony of Mousewall, 1673 (PSAS., XXIII, p. 74), and James Mundell was examined for the Test in 1685 (RPC., 3. ser. XI, p. 433). Mundells are still numerous in Dumfriesshire. Mondevyl 1304, Munduail I486.
