MURDOCHSON, Murdoson: 'son of Murdoch,' which see. Gilbert filius Mordaci (Latin gen.) was tenant of the earl of Douglas in the vill of Prestoun, 1376 (RHM., I, p. lxi), and John Muroksone or Murokison appears in the Douglas rental of Kilbochoke (Kilbucho) in the same year (ibid., I, p. xlvii, xlviii; II, p. 16). John filius Murtnaci had charter of a tenement in Carale, c. 1380 (Neubotle, p. 236). In 1421 mention is made of the land of Gilbert Murdaci (RAA., I, 56), and in 1456 and in 1472 Thomas Murdaci appears as chaplain and presbyter of Brechin (REB., I, 182; II, 276). Malcolm Murthosoun had sasine of the lands of Camlongan-Murthosaun in 1468 (Gallovidian). The widow of Finlay Murthawsone was tenant of Auchinbard in 1480 (ER., IX, p. 592), and three years later Patrick Murdachsone was half tenant of the same lands (ibid., p. 595; RMS., II, 1623). Another Patrick Murdesone was burgess of Perth, 1539. Donald Murdowsone, a follower of Murdow McCloyd, was one of those who took part in the attack on the galley of the laird of Balcomie in 1600 (RPC., XIV, p. cxxiii). John Murthesoun in Otterswick, Shetland, witness, 1624 (OSS., I, 64). Murdosone 1546, Murthoson 1483, Murthosoun 1468. Murdachsone 1484, Murdachsoun 1500.
