This surname is not common, and seems to be connected more with Aberdeenshire than elsewhere. Simon Mwiyson was husbandman of the Grange of Abirbothry, 1448 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 126), and Johannes Murysone was burgess of Kircaldy in the same year (RD., p. 305). Sir William Mureson, a cleric, was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1491 (NSCM., I, p. 35). Tybbe Mwrisone, tenant of part of Kethik, 1504 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 256). Archibald Murison was bailie for Arnbroath Abbey in Banff, 1528 (RAA., II, 705). John Meresoun was a follower of Campbell of Lundy, 1529 (RSS., II, 59), William Muresoun was reidare at Crouden, 1574 (RMR.), and George Muirsoun in Feme, a follower of Walter Ross of Morange, 1596 (RPC., V, p. 304). Duncan Murieson was on inquisition in Stirling, 1598 (SBR., p. 89). Murchow Mursone in Gerstone, Caithness, 1664 (Caithness). In Officers and graduates of Aberdeen (New Spalding Club) mention is made of several Murisons who graduated from the university from 1670 onward. Prof. Alexander Falconer Murison, and his son, James William Murison, Judge of the British High Court, Zanzibar, are two of the most prominent of the name. Muirsone 1640, Murisone 1686.
