The Musungwa surname means 'prisoner'. It originated from a lone hunter from Swaziland, a descendant of the Khumalo tribe, who was caught hunting in the now called Zimbabwe by a fierce King known as Nehoreka Munhumutapa, carried the title Musungwa. He later married the daughter of the King Munhumutapa and was given Lands to rule over as the king's banner man and son in law and was given the title Ngara, meaning porcupine, because of his defensive war tactics. Became a fierce King in his own respect and his tribe till today is called the Vamambo tribe, meaning 'son-in-law of the King'.
