Myrstad Surname Meaning
User-submitted Reference
Myrstad is a Norwegian surname, which originally was (and still is) a name of a farm in the north-west county of Møre og Romsdal. The name is a compound name. The first part is myr, meaning 'bog', and the second is stad, meaning 'place' or 'settlement'. The original name was simply "Myre", because the farm is located next to a river, and some of the farmland is a bog. The word, stad, could have been added later as an invention of a new and more modern name. The name changed from "Myre" to "Myrstad" in the 17th century.
