NENTHORN: From the lands of Nenthorn in the parish of Nenthorn, Berwickshire. Symone de Naythanthirn appears as a charter witness, c. 1203 (Drybureh, p. 160), and as Simund de Neitanestirn (misread by Anderson Heicanestirn) witnessed a charter by Ricardus de Morvifle, the constable (Anderson, Selectus diplomatum, pl. 75). Henry de Neythantherne of the county of Berewyke rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 207). William de Nethenthyrn, a Scots prisoner taken at the capture of Dunbar Castle in 1296, was sent to St. Briavell's Castle, and was still a prisoner in 1299 (ibid., p. 177,278).
