The name Nomeh is a very common surname in the Igbo nation of Nigeria, this name has been in existence since the time of our forefathers and has been used in various parts of Igboland in naming a different number of things by the way whichever clan understands it.
Some have used this name in naming generic things like: humans, idols, as name of a community, name of a river etc.
Unfortunately the suggestion given by most people to be the meaning of this name seems to be a misnomer as many people who use it as a name for their idol believe that this name means the name of a very powerful idol; while others thought of it as the name of a good river with mystical powers.
Inasmuch as others have given a good and somewhat thorough meaning to the popular name, Nomeh, I still went ahead and consulted many elderly men from traditional villages like Amawula in Ezza, North local Government Area of Ebonyi State and from their information I believe that the better and much real meaning of the name Nomeh is a 'protruding belly'. Not in the form of a disease but as a sign of riches. Probably from a rich harvest during the new yam festival which lured the farm owner "the Nomeh" into eating more than enough, making his belly big. Being the town with the largest use of the name, Nomeh, I strongly believe that their information is the fact other than others who believed that the protruding belly is as a result of sickness from poison.
