This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Northampton'. There can be little doubt that this is the true etymology. The early forms of the surname were Norhampton, Norhamton, and Norhanton, and this would soon become Norrington. There is no Northampton in our directories, and yet the surname was common in the 13th century. Therefore we must look for it in some corrupted form. Norrington meets every difficulty.
