A curtailed form of Normanville which see. Robert Norvyle witnessed resignation by Sir David de Wemyss of lands in Fife in 1373 (Wemyss, II, p. 15). Johannes Norwald (with accretionary d), dominus de Cardownalde (Cardonald near Paisley) was witness to a notarial instrument in 1413 (Pollok, I, p. 146). John Norvaile and George Norvil are recorded in Stirling in 1471 (Sc. Ant., X, p. 59, 60). Adam Norwald, witness in Perth, 1547 (Rollok, 16), William Norwell who was amerciat in Stirling in 1549 may be the William Norvell 'thesaurar of the burght of Striviling' in 1561 (SBR., p. 55, 77). William Norwell, perhaps the same person, represented Stirling in the Scottish parliament, 1568—86 (Foster, p. 275). John Norvell, burgess of Stirling, 1596 (Logie, I, p. 17). Gilbert Norvell was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1605 (NSCM., I, p. 100), Jon Norwall was merchant burgess there in 1611 (ROA., I, p. 231), William Norwell was burgess and guild brother of Glasgow in 1619 (Burgesses), and Alexander Norvall was notary at Carluke in 1656 (Lanark CR.).
