John de Vchiltre was a notary public in Linlithgow in 1399 (LSC., 108), and a tenement in Perth was confirmed to Michael Wchyltre, dean of Dunblane, in 1424 (RMS., II, 18). Archibald Wchiltre witnessed an instrument of sasine of Cragniche to Archibald, earl of Argyll in 1493 (OPS., II, p. 97), Alanus Wchiltre was juror on an assize at Liston in 1459 (Edmonstone, p. 80), John Ukiltre of Kildalvan, witness, 1547 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 139), and John Uchiltrie was a clerk of St. Andrews diocese in 1576 (Home, p. 231). A race of MacUchtres who held lands in Glendaruel of the earls of Argyll "gradually Anglicised their name to Ochiltrie (Argyll charters passim)" (Celt. Rev., IX, p. 348). Ouchiltre 1550. Uchiltre 1501, Uchiltree 1576, Vcgiltrie 1567. The name is most probably derived from Ochiltree in the parish of Linlithgow, West Lothian. Oghillrie 1629.
