OCONOCHAR: Irish O'Conchobhair or O'Conchubhair, 'descendant of Conchobar,' an ancient Irish personal name. Duncan Oconochar, mediciner in Lome, 1622 (Sasines, II, 135). Kenneth Oconchar, servitor of Donald Oconchar, mediciner in Lome, 1636 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 192). Dr. Donald Ochonocher the famous mediciner attended the Thane of Cawdor in his last illness in Irvine, c. 1650. John Oconochar in Bravalich, 1672 (HP., II, p. 208). John O'Conocher of Ardeoran, witness 1668 (Sasines, 1405), appears again in 1686 as John Occonicher in Ardoran (RPC., 3. ser. XII, p. 441). James O'Conochar was schoolmaster of Kingarth, Bute, 1699 (Hewison, II, p. 285). The O'Conochers were leeches to the Macdougalls of Dunolly and the Campbells of Lochow. Several of the Oconochers in Lorne called themselves Leotch-and as likely as not they were really Macdougalls (Henry Campbell). O'Conoher (in Bute 1686).
