Ogidinta as a name primarily means 'younger Ogidi' and in Igbo land, the suffix -nta basically means 'small' or 'young'. However, Ogidi as a name derives from a tree called Ugiri under native custom. The name Ogidinta was established in the year 1891 after the birth of the late Ezeji Ogidinta Ogidi. Although at birth, he wasn't the first son in an extended family comprised of over 60 wives and over a hundred children from his father Ogidi Nwagba, who was a traditional ruler in the then native Ngwa Land Aba in the South eastern region of the territory now known as Nigeria. The name Ogidinta was prescribed to the aforementioned due to the fact that his mother was his father's favourite wife.
