Perhaps from Oare in Sussex, England. The Ores of Knockoudie, in the shire of Naim, "were not of great fortune, but occupied a good social standing. The name of Ore existed in Naim till lately, but the main line has failed in the district" (Bain, Nairnshire, 2. ed., 1898, p. 339). James Oare, teacher at Alfoord, 1673, "was approven, but exhorted to study the Hebrew more exactlie" (Alford, p. 193). Hew Ore, merchant in Nairn, 1747 (Moray). Knockoudie now forms part of the farm of Park.
A parish near Hastings, co. Sussex, which had owners of the same name in the XIV. century, if not earlier.
