Perhaps from the English place name Oram or Orem rather than a variant of Orm, which see. Persons of this name were for a lengthened period tenant farmers in the parish of Kemnay (AEI., p. 22). Henry Owrum was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1479 (NSCM., I, p. 28). William Orem recorded in Dullab, 1633 (SCM., III, p. 73), and David Orem in Perth, 1694 (Inquis., 7545). Alexander Orem was bailie of Aberdeen, 1722, and William Orem, town clerk of Aberdeen, wrote a description of the Chanonry, etc., of Old Aberdeen, 1724-5.
