This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Palmerley.' I cannot find the spot, though doubtless it exists somewhere in the south of England, nor can I discover any trace of the surname on English soil. It went out to America with the Pilgrim Fathers as Palmerley, i.e. 'the meadow that belonged to the palmer' (v. Palmer); compare Palmerston.
