The termination flet, however, may sometimes be from Anglo-Saxon flet, a dwelling, a habitation, a seat, hall; Su. -Goth. flet, domus. compare also the Old German names Elsflet, Gerflat, Gundiflat, Hruodflat, Ratflat, Rihflat, Sigiflat; the O. Goth, names Albofleda, Audofleda, Andefleda; and the Anglo-Saxon names Aelflaed, Adelfled, Adelfleda, Aethelfleda, Elfleda, and Wynfleda. Meidinger thinks fleda, flet, flat, in composition, means reinlich, cleanly, neat; from the noun flath; whence the N. High German unflath, schmutz.
