The Panchoo surname can be found in various parts of the world, with its highest incidence in Mauritius, but also very common in the Caribbean. In fact, its highest density has been recorded on the Island of Grenada. But, this was not always the case.
The Panchoos in Grenada are truly descendants of a small group of Indians from Trinidad (Chindian-Kalinago), who had migrated as a mixed race of Indian and Chinese, either from India or Mauritius, and as indentured servants. As a result, no one Panchoo member in Grenada has a family heritage that originally sprouted in Grenada. For it was in the late 19th century - early 20th century, that the first Panchoo family moved from Trinidad (Chaguaramus region), and moved to Grenada where the lineage progressed and eventually changed overtime. Modern day Panchoo members in Grenada, are now mostly either mixed race or negro.
