William of Panton of Petmedane was juror on assize at Artrowquhi, 1436 (CAB., p. 394), and James Pantone of Pitmeddan and Tulymade died in 1451. John de Pantown, witness in Brechin, 1464 (REB., II, 103), and Alexander Pantone admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1495 (NSCM., I, p. 38), may be Alexander Pantoune who had remission for forethought felonies there in 1505 (Trials, I, p. 104). Dame Elspeth or Elizabeth Pantone was a religious of North Berwick in 1539-48 (CMN., 56, 65), Jonet Pauntoun was retoured heir of Jonet Sym in Galstoun, her mother, 1606 (Retours, Ayr, 81). and Williame Pantoune was heir of James Pantoun of Blackhouse, his father, 1685 (Retours, Aberdeen, 473). The name disappeared from among landowners in eighteenth century and is now rare. There is a parish of this name in Lincolnshire.
