The frequency of 'de Paris,' or 'de Pairs and 'de Parisiis' as English surnames in the thirteenth century, especially in Lincolnshire (Madden, pref. to Matthew Paris, Hist., III) has led Sir J. H. Ramsay (Foundations of England, I, p. 61) to the ingenious inference that the name of the Parisii, who lived near the mouth of the Humber, persisted as that of a district in N. Lincolnshire till that late period. Peiris 1598.
