As forename: Pait Quheyt, 1525 (Rental), Pait Plumer in Kelso, 1567 (Kelso, p. 522). This is an ancient name in Fife, 1587, and later, spelled Pait. At and around this date there were many Patties, Patons, and Patricks in Fife, and Pait may therefore have been a diminutive of one of these names.
