Pavan Surname Meaning
User-submitted Reference
Pavanel is very rare and it seems native of the area between Treviso and Pordenone. While Pavanelli is more typical of Ferrara, while Pavanello has a Veneto, all these names should come from Padua name by contraction (Padovan-Pavan etc.). The characteristic termination -n him back without a doubt the fact of the Veneto region (as well as most of the Italian last names with this ending). The etymology allows to understand its meaning and origins: although the heraldry of surnames overs to a noble original patrician house of Verona, the surname Pavan presents a clear and obvious similarity with the city of Padua, which seems to be the contracted form.To confirm this thesis, there would also be the way in which surnames were assigned to families in the past, especially those located in the northeast of the peninsula. It was indeed very widespread tradition of tying the history of the name of a gens to its geographical origin (as in this case), to craft practiced, for a term of endearment or even to particular physical or character traits. Although the surname Pavan is to be considered in all respects panveneto we find different strains in other northern regions (primarily in the neighboring Friuli but also in Lombardy and Piedmont) and the occasional track in Emilia Romagna and Lazio. It is however, conceivable that such release is only the logical consequence of past migrations in search of work at a time when the Veneto region did not provide sufficient sources of livelihood.
Ancient and illustrious family, originally from Verona, said Pavan, Padovani or Pavanini, swiftly spread, over the centuries, in different regions of Italy. The family is registered in the noble council of Verona, since 1739, and the nobility was confirmed by Sovereign Resolution October 10, 1819, in the person of Giovanni Antonio, son of the late Ottavio and the Marchesa Lucrezia Saibante, born April 6, 1764, the husband of Gertrude Gerbini, from which: Ottavio, Luigi, Giuseppe and Gaetano. Another branch. Noble Venetian family, whose members, in Murano, were prosecuted in the Golden Book and had the privilege of burial in the church of S. Salvatore.
