Probably a form of Peattie, which see. The home of the name seems to have been Perthshire. In West Angus and in East Perthshire intervocalic tt becomes dd. The surname also occurs frequently in Cromarty parish session records and is found in Angus in fifteenth century. Edward Pedy witnessed resignation of the bell of S, Meddan to Sir John Ogilvy in 1447 (SCM., V, p. 118). Three individuals named Peddy were among those to whom the lands of Kynclwyne (Kinclune) were leased in 1485 (RAA., II, 258). George Pedv was inhabitant of Leith, 1566 (Soltre, p. 127).
