Enoch Perks, son of Benjamin Perks, moved to the United States at the turn of the 19th century. They came to the USA as coal miners from Wakefield, England. They moved to Pennsylvania, found work in coal mines there, and continued to mine and farm a small plot of rented land. Enoch's first wife, Mary Ann Sales, died shortly after giving birth to their 12th child several years after coming to the United States. Enoch remarried Olive Ann Hastings. Olive bore Enoch nine more children.
