Bishop Perowne, who died in 1904, was a descendant of one of the French refugees who came over after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
A French Protestant family, who fled hither at the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, and settled at Norwich, where some of the branches are still resident. The name is variously spelt in old registers, and it seems uncertain whether its original form was Perron, Perrone, or Peronne; if the last, it was probably derived from the French town so called. Inf. Rev. J. J. S. Perowne.
