From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

From the town of the same name. Robert de Perth witnessed the gift of the church of Hadintona by Richard, bishop of St. Andrews, a. 1173 (RPSA., p. 135). He is probably the Robertus filius Seulfi who sometimes appears as Robertus filius Seulfi de Perth (ibid., p. 132,136, etc.). Jacobus de Pert and his heirs had a grant of Rosin clerac from William the Lion, and among the witnesses is Samuele de Pert (SCM., II, p. 318). Jacobus de Perth also witnessed a charter by Swan filius Thor, c. 1211-14 (Scon, p. 18), and Johannes de Perth witnessed a charter of the lands of Rath in the territory of Kateryn or Katerlyn, c. 1206 (RAA., I, p. 45). Thomas of Perth was one of the garrison of Stirling, 1339-40 (Bain, III, p. 241). John de Perth, burgess and alderman of the town of Seint Johan de Perthe, and Wadyn de Perth, burgess of the same town, rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, 814, and p. 197), and a later John of Perth, a Scots merchant, had a safe conduct into England in 1412 (Bain, IV, 829).
