Petcon Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
PETCON: Petcon of that Ilk was a small ancient family almost unknown to Ayrshire genealogists. Their estate, now Pitcon, near Dalry, Ayrshire, later gave designation to a branch of the family of Boyd. The surname is not now known in the county. Robert de Pictone of the county of Are rendered homage in 1296. His seal beers a crescent, ster, and S' Rob de Pitcon (Bain, II, p. 205,553). As Robert de Petecon he served as juror on an inquisition at Berwick on the lands of Lady Elena la Zuche in Conyngham in the county of Ayr in the same year (ibid., p. 216). Sir Robert Pitcon was witness to an award in 1488 (RMP., p. 155), and William Pitcon de eodem was chamberlain of Kilwinning in 1557. The sername seems never to have prevailed in the district (parish of Dalry), and "probably it was abridged to Conn, of which surname there are several families in the neighbourhood" (Dobie, in Pont, p. 356). Petcoun 1563.
