After his death in 1747, his widow and most of their 12 children emigrated to America. Over the course of the next few decades the family anglicised their surname to Peckinpaugh. Virtually all the Peckinpaughs, and the numerous spellings, are descendants of Johann and Anna Maria Beckinbach: Peckinpaughs, Pickenpaughs, Peckinpaughs, Beckenbaughs, Pickinpahs and Peckenpaughs.
