This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Spelsbury,' a village in Oxfordshire; v. Spilsbury. These corrupted forms are commonly found in the United States. I met with instances daily in the course of a tour through the States in May and June, 1888. But the correcter forms, Spilsbury and Spillsbury, are not unknown. The corruption into Pilsbury is a very natural one.
