A parish in Lincolnshire. The surname Pincebeck is said to occur in that county in the XI. cent. See English Surn. i. 27; though the document there quoted is of questionable authenticity.
Same as Pinchbeck; from Pinchbeck co. Lincoln. An alloy of copper and zinc resembling gold in its appearance, was first brought into notice by a London tradesman of the name of Pinchbeck, who manufactured watches, buckles, and other articles out of it. But see Chamock's Verba Nominalia.
Pinchbeck was a Boston name in the 17th century, the mayor in 1661 bearing the name (T.). It is now rare in the county, though still found in Boston. A Lincolnshire village is thus called.
