PINKIE: From the lands of Pinkie in the parish of Inveresk, Midlothian, the old name of which was Pontekyn (c. 1174-99, Neubotle, p. 53). John de Pontkyn witnessed gift of the church of Wemys (Fife) to the Hospital of Soltre, c. 1200-40 (Soltre, p. 13), and Peter de Pontekin was one of those who joined his fortunes to those of Bruce (Bain, III, 245; Barron, War of Independence, 414). Adam Pontkyn and Thomas de Pont-yn were members of the garrison of Edinburgh Castle, 1339-40 (Bain, III, p. 241).
