Pinsler Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

Pinsler is of Saxon (Germanic) origin, and became prevalent when Germans colonised The Transylvania region of Romania (though, at that time it belonged to Hungary) during the 10th century (see: Transylvania Saxons). Pinsler means "painter" or "dauber" in the Germanic languages. It's an occupational surname, as were prevalent at that time in history (ie; Smith, Miller etc.). My family originates from the town of Roman in the Transylvania region of Romania. My great grandparents owned a vineyard in the region. I've done my family tree but cannot trace my "Pinsler" branch further than my great-grandparents due to lost records during World War II and the subsequent USSR occupation. I'm one of two Pinslers living in Germany. My mother and I used to live in Australia, however we no longer do as of May 2011, and there are no more Pinslers left there. My father's side of the family (where the name originates from) mostly live in Singapore & Malaysia after fleeing Romania (and Europe) during the early period of World War II. I know of a few other distant relatives in the USA, Canada and Israel. I'm almost sure, though have no direct evidence of this, that as Pinsler is such an uncommon surname we are all distantly related and can all be tied back to the Transylvanian colony (Mostly to the town Roman, and the surrounding area).
