From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
From the old manor of the same name in the parish of Oxnam, Roxburghshire. John de Plenderleith witnessed a charter of lands in Teviotdale in the reign of King William the Lion (Melros, p. 144), and Nicholas de Prendrelath held the manor of Gilbert de Humfrenvill in socage before 1291 (Rot. Scot., I, p. 10). John Wishart and Johanna, his wife, daughter and heiress of Nicholas de Prendrelath, are found in possession of tenements at "Monilawe" (now Money laws in Northumberland) in 1291. William de Prendrelathe of the county of Roxburgh rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 199). Rev. Patrick Plenderleith (1679-1715) was minister of Saline in Fife, and John Plenderleith was provost of Peebles and member of parliament for that burgh in 1669-70.
