The parish of S. Sauveur de la Pommeraye, in the department of La Manche, Normandy, gave name to a great family mentioned in Domesday Book, and by Brompton; and they in turn conferred it upon Berry Pomeroy, co. Devon. Mem. Soc. Antiq. Norman vol. vii. Ralph de Pomerei held 58 lordships at the time of the Survey, in the counties of Devon and Somerset. Kelham. Pommeraye, in O. French, signifies an orchard, (Cotgrave), and De la Pomeraye is found in H.R.
