From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

Alanus de Ponte held a toft in Perth in the reign of Alexander II (Scon, p. 62). Juliana de Ponte, daughter of Adam de Ponte, burgess of Arne, granted an annuity of 21 shillings to the convent of St. Catharine of Ayr, c. 1340 (Friars Ayr, p. 10). Patrick Pont was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1503 (NSCM., I, p. 41). Robert Pont was provost of Queen's College (S. Trin.), Edinburgh, 1573 (Soltre, p. 226), and an assedation of the lands of Cowdennyes baith was made to Helene Pont before 1585 (RD., p. 488). Magister Robertus Pont, minister of the word of God in St. Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh, was heir of James Pont, commissary of Dunblane, 1602 (Inguis., 113). Chalmers (Caledonia, II, p. 57) says, without giving authority for his statement, that this Robert Pont was "the son of John Pont, a Venetian Protestant who had fled to France. and came into Scotland with James V in the retinue of Queen Magdalene; he obtained lands of Shyres mill, and married Katherine, the daughter of Moray of Tullibardin." compare under Kinpont.

One of these took place on account of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, and, in the year 1691, we find a French refugee family of Pont resident in London. In some cases the name has been anglicised to Bridge.
