Richard de Potton or Poiton (d. 1270), bishop of Aberdeen, was an Englishman. In Boece and later Church books his name is recorded as Pottocht and Pottock (REA., I, p. xxv). Hugh de Potton became archdeacon of Glasgow, 1227 (Chron. Moil.), and was a charter witness, c. 1227-35 (RMP., p. 77). John de Potyn, judex, witnessed a quit-claim of the lands of Drumkerauch, 1260 RPSA., p. 346; see also Panmure, II, 83). The name is derived from Potton, a parish and market town in Redfordshire.
