PRESSEN: From the township of Pressen (1255 Prestfen, 1309 Presfen, 1428 Pressen). William de Presfen was appointed by Edward III in 1334 to take seisin in his name of the Castle of Jedeworth, and as valettus to the same king he was appointed constable of the castle (Rot. Scot., I, p. 271,401). William of Presfen and other Soots merchants complained that their ships, wrecked in a storm, were plundered at Bamburgh and Tynemouth in 1357 (Bain, IV, 10).
