Prisson Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
This name may be found in the late 16th century as variants, such as Pryson and Prissone, also used at the time to describe a prison. Given that there are no early instances of the name it was probably assumed on account of a nickname such as, 'John the Prison,' to distinguish from other people of the same name. It was likely given to a gaoler (jailer,) and was less likely to be held by a prisoner due to the tendency for unflattering surnames to be changed. It could also be a contraction of 'priest son' - the son of the priest. Prison is also found in Beverley, Massachusetts as a corruption of Preston.
