This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. Ap-Rhydderc, Welsh. The English form would be Roderickson. Some remarks on this name will be found in Miss Yonge's History of Christian Names (ii. 370).

A note is appended by the editor to say that he was the son of Roderic Evans, of Llanor, Carnarvonshire Thus after the Welsh customhe became Evan Ap-Roderic or Prhydderch; v. Rhydderch.
