From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

PURROCK: Waryn Purrok, charter witness in Dundee, c. 1204 (RAA., I, p. 96). Robert Purroc, with consent of Walter his son, gave seven acres of land in Ayton to William Scot of Coldingham (Raine, 202), Walter, son of Robert Purroch, gave a bovate of land in Aython to the prior and convent of Coldingham in 1259 (ibid., 203), and in 1276 the same Walter gave all his land 'in superiori Ayton' to the same monks (ibid., 204). In 1283 Johannes dictus purroc, son of William Scot of Coldingham, made a gift of land in the superiority of Ayton to the same monks (ibid., 208). William Purrok who appears as charter witness in Edinburgh, 1425, is doubtless the William Purro, bailie of Edinburgh in 1428 (RMS., II, 25,116). Andrew Purrok was burgess of Perth, 1468 (Milne, p. 58), Richard Purrok appears in Brechin in 1506 (RER., II, 150), and Margaret Purrok is recorded in Dunfermline, 1564 (Dunfermline). The name is always without 'de' and the use of 'dictus' would lead one to infer that the name was descriptive. Henry Pyrrok was servant of the parson of Salkeld Regis, Cumberland, 1282 (Moore, Lands, p. 121).
