From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

The lands of Carron Hall in the parish of Lerbert were formerly called Querrell (= quarry). They gave name to a family. Quarrel of that Ilk. Thomas de Querle was presented to the church of Ratheu or Ratho in St. Andrews' diocese in 1298 (Bain, II, p. 260,263). William Queries left Scotland about 1420 and settled in Northamptonshire. The estate appears then to have passed into possession of the family of Reidheuch and afterwards to Rissets. See Gibson, Lairds and lands of Larbert and Dunipace, p. 44—45.
