QUIXWOOD: From the lands of Quixwood near Abbey St. Rathans, Rerwickshire. David son of Ærnald de Quixwood, was a large landowner there in the early years of the thirteenth century and a generous benefactor of the Priory of Coldingham, no less than eight charters of his gifting lands to the Priory being on record (Raine, App., 179-186). His gifts were confirmed by his son Thomas de Quikiswde (ibid., 187). David de Quicheswde also, in the reign of William the Lion, endowed a hospital for lepers at Aldecambus (ibid., 59). Richard de Quixwood was prior of Coldingham from 1315 to 1322 (Coldingham, p. 121). In the charters the name appears as Quikeswude, Quicheswde, Quiquiswde, Qecheswrth, Quikeswde, Quikiswde, Quid es-wode, and once Quichesyd.
