Rackard Surname Definition:

This name is so well-known on account of the fame of the Rackard brothers as Wexford hurlers that it will surprise many people to learn that it is quite rare even in Co. Wexford. It is in fact a fairly modern form of MacRichard and MacRickard, which themselves began as ephemeral surnames formed from the Christian name of some member of one of the great mediaeval Irish families, in this case probably the Anglo-Irish Butlers but possibly the Gaelic Kavanaghs.

Rackard Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

The name was well established in Co. Wexford at the beginning of the nineteenth century, for Griffith's Valuation lists three families in the barony of Bantry and six in the barony of Forth (two of the latter being spelt Rackward in that document) and the Tithe Applotment Books of the previous generation corroborate this.
