The instances adduced are from Yorkshire, where Ragg, Ragge, and Wragg (which see) are well-known surnames, and where Reyner (Ragner) was at the same time one of the favourite font-names. App.), Alexander Ragg was bailie of Aberdeen, 1697 (SCM., V, p. 362), and Janet Ragg resident there, 1750 (Aberdeen CR.). Ragg and Wragg are typical Yorkshire surnames, probably from ODan. pers. name Wraghi, whence the placename Wragbi in the West Riding. Not likely to be a variant of Reoch or Riach as has been suggested.
